University City is located in the Golden Triangle
area defined by three bordering freeways and Rose Canyon. Rose Canyon,
named for early settler and entrepreneur Louis Rose, is open space
shared by runners, walkers, and an assortment of wildlife. In sharp
contrast with the rustic canyon are the gleaming office buildings and
shopping areas of University Town Center.
True to its name, the residential area of University City began in
the 1960s to house people associated with the University of California
San Diego (UCSD). Since then, University City has evolved into a neighborhood
with a mix of condominiums and apartments on the northern
edge.
In addition to its excellent freeway access and mixed use development,
University City features the breathtaking Mormon Temple along I-5 • UCSD
Medical Center • La Jolla Playhouse • Birch Aquarium • and
more. |
